Around Laticastelli there are a number of hidden roads which allow you to discover real medieval jewels such as Armaiolo, Montebenichi, Rapale , Sogna , Il Castello de Modanella , the old fortified village of Lucignano which is a charming round walled town and the Abazzia de Monte Olivetto Maggiore which is a Benedictine abbey famous for its frescoes. Il Borro, the village restored by Ferragamo is well worth a trip.

Laticastelli is in the Crete Senese area where world famous wines are produced. This is the area of the Brunello di Montalcino, and of the Rosso and Nobile de Montepulciano wines. The town of Montepulciano, situated on top of a hill with fantastic views of the surrounding vineyards is worth visiting, as is Pienza, a perfect example of a renaissance town.

MARKETS AND SHOPPING
Once a week the different towns hold an open market where all sorts of things can be bought, from fresh food, flowers and plants, to shoes and all kinds of clothes. The Siena, Montevarchi and Arezzo markets are specially important.
Florence today is a fashion and design center, as is Arezzo for gold and jewelry, with its famous monthly antique market.
For more serious shopping expeditions, the outlets of a number of fashion houses can be found in the area. At 'The Mall' on the A1,the Gucci, Ferragamo, Tods, Valentino and Armani shops are all grouped together to invite you on a shopping spree. |
